Hard rock is a subgenre of rock that was born around 1965. In its origins it fused rock with garage (which in turn had traces of R&B and soul), blues and the more psychedelic aspects of rock.

Within hard rock, we are used to find different more specific subgenres such as heavy metal, grunge, punk or glam.

The best current hard rock bands are:

  • Bullet for My Valentine
  • Three days Grace
  • Airbourne
  • Lordi
  • H.E.A.T.
  • Måneskin

Bullet for My Valentine

One of the best current hard rock bands is Bullet for My Valentine. This hard rock band was born in 1998 in Bridgend, a region of Wales. The group began covering songs of other groups of the genre such as Nirvana or Metallica. Initially, the band was called Jeff Killed John, a name that was changed to the current one in 2003 when one of the band members was replaced by a new one.

Their first album was titled The Poison and was released in October 2005. This was quite successful in the independent album charts in English-speaking countries and allowed them to go out and promote the album around the world, playing concerts. They would go on tour with such renowned bands as Metallica or Guns N' Roses.

Their latest album bears the same name as the band and was released in 2021. This one presents a "heavier" sound than the previous album, which had received some criticism.

Three Days Grace

Without a doubt, one of the best current hard rock bands is Three Days Grace. This hard rock band originated from Ontario, Canada in 1992. Originally the band was called Groundswell, which leaned towards the grunge genre. Due to the little success they had, they decided to split up. However, three of the former members decided to regroup, this time under the name Three Days Grace.

One of their first songs -and one of the best known- is"I Hate Everything About You", which made them become one of the main rock bands of the moment.

Their latest release is an album entitled"EXPLOSIONS", in the year 2022. This band currently has more than eight and a half million monthly listeners on one of the main music streaming platforms, such as Spotify.

Airbourne

In this list of the best current hard rock bands, Airbourne could not be missing. The band was born in 2003 in Warrnambool, a town in Victoria, Australia. Thanks to the popularity they had in their region of origin, they were able to release their first EP in 2004. It was titled "Ready to Rock".

Their fame reached such a level that they were able to participate in concerts with bands such as The Rolling Stones or Mötley Crüe. Their first studio album was released in 2007 under the name"Runnin' Wild". This band currently has almost two million monthly listeners on streaming music platforms such as Spotify.

Their latest studio album dates from September 2016 and is titled"Breakin' Outta Hell". However, in 2019 they released two singles that do not yet belong to any studio album or EP. These are "Boneshaker" and "Backseat Boogie".

Lordi

If you want to listen to one of the best current hard rock bands, you can't miss the Finnish group Lordi. It was founded in the city of Rovaniemi in 1992. It is a very characteristic and striking group, as they always appear dressed in extremely extravagant costumes, symbolizing demons, monsters or skulls.

They released their first studio album in 2002,"Get Heavy". Two years later they released their second album, "The Monsterican Dream". The band was already becoming known at this time, but there are two moments in which their fame will reach practically every corner of Europe, and part of the rest of the world.

The first is their participation in the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2006, in the city of Copenhagen. They performed during the event and the main member of the group also presented one of the awards.

The second moment that would make them gain great fame is their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. The festival was held in Athens and they won with their song "Hard Rock Hallelujah", a song that was included in their second studio album.

H.E.A.T.

Another of the best current hard rock bands is H.E.A.T. This is a band born in 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden. Its members emerged from two other bands, called Trading Fate and Dream. Their music shows many influences from other bands and singers of the genre such as Bon Jovi or Europe.

Their first studio album was titled with the same name of the band and was released in 2008. Their latest release was the seventh studio album -not counting their live album- to be released by the band. It was released in 2022 and is entitled"Force Majeure".

Måneskin

To finish this list of the best current hard rock bands, we could not fail to mention Måneskin. This band is also the newest and youngest on the list and has a great merit: bringing hard rock to the younger generation.

This band was formed in 2015 in Rome, Italy. They started singing in the streets of the city songs of other groups of the genre. In the year 2017 they participated in the Italian version of the program The X Factor, where they achieved the second place.

In 2021, already with a studio album on the market and after a tour, they performed at the San Remo Song Festival. Their song "Zitti e buoni" made them win the contest, victory with which they could also participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, representing Italy.
